Project 1 Me, Myself & I
Project Issued SEPTEMBER 09, 2013
Project Submission SEPTEMBER 20, 2013
Our kick start in HBP was to draw our portrait and to design our personal logo. It was issued on our first day to our studio class. Am I surprised? Well, no actually, given exposed to all those 'rumors' about how hectic our schedules are gonna be as a member of this school. So all those mental preparations before I actually stepped into USM does help when all those 'rumors' turned out to be quite true.
Okay, back to the project. Drawing human figures ain't something too new for me, but realistic portraits? Not that much.
I had always take drawing living figures to be very challenging, considering all the things like capturing their souls and all into your drawing, stuff like that. So, drawing my very own face? That is certainly something new and challenging. Anyway, this is what I came up with.
I do not have any sketching techniques. The technique I applied was the 'coloring technique'. I just shade where I think is supposed to be dark from what I observed from my reference photo, which was the photo on my matrix card.
The feedback I got from my family and friends were...
'eyes too big'
'neck too small'
'nose very weird'
'mouth senget'
T.T Now I truly believe that the people around me are the ones who can always tell me the truth, BLUNTLY (ouch). Can I shamelessly say that the first two I did it on purpose to somehow 'beautify' myself? (XD) But I do take all the critiques from them into my head, and vow to do better if I'm ever going to draw my face again.
Designing has always been a harder thing to me compared to drawing. So when it comes to the logo, I had my first headache.
I took a wave form as my inspiration in the design process, as how it had always been in my life. As a child growing up on an island, the sea is something that I'm familiar with. Even after years observing the sea, it still hasn't cease to inspire me every single time.
Here endeth Project 1.
